Sorta Off Topic

If you love old photos, you'll love Shorpy, the 100 Year old blog. Each entry is a picture from around the early 20th century. I loved this photo recently-the look on this boy's face is incredibly expressive....I think I'll refer to this any time I hear about how "good" those old days were....child labor anyone????

Anyway, this is a hectic time of year for me at my job that pays the bills, so not too much new in the way of trying recipes or having time to work on the site. I will get back to it more next week.

Also, I wanted to give you a heads up on an exciting project my husband and I will be working on--my own food video! He's got the video production skillz (I'm in agreement w/Napoleon Dynamite--girls love guys with skills Smile), and I've got the food knowledge. We'll be showing the differences between some of the different types of Mexican tortilla dishes such as flautas, enchiladas, chimichangas, and many more. They are so easy to make at home, and soooo delicious. So be looking for this exciting video soon!!!!

Low Salt Thoughts

I am considering the Rice Diet, which actually doesn't really have a lot to do with rice, it is mostly a low sodium, low sugar, healthy eating plan. I haven't decided whether it's something I could do from here on out, but I do think the health benefits would be worth it. So now I'm looking through low-sodium cookbooks to see if I can find dishes that would be delicious, easy to fix, and healthy. Does anyone out there have some favorite low-sodium recipes? Has anyone else tried the Rice Diet?

Idea for New Video Game

I have to write this down before life intervenes and I forget all the details Wink. As many of you know, my profession (other than recipe collector) is as a librarian. I recently got an inspired thought for a new library based video game that I, if I had the requisite skills, would totally create and play.

Introducing.....Library Streetfighter

Terrorists have attacked your library. You are the only one working (or else they have killed everyone else). It is up to you to use the materials at hand to defend yourself and the important works of the library. Here are some of the things you can use:

  • Dictionaries (I had to carry a stack of these recently--they are HEAVY).
  • Encyclopedias
  • Thesaurus (thesauri??)
  • Use a stack of a prolific author's works to build a barricade (Danielle Steel, Louis L'Amour, etc)
  • Library fine
  • For the more advanced levels, you could use the Dewey Decimal numbers for war books, karate books, etc.

(For the record, this idea is somewhat inspired by this Robot Chicken sketch....

Let's Hear from the Audience

I know I have a few readers out there, so here are a few questions for YOU--the COOL people out there Cool:

  1. What are some of your favorite foods?
  2. What's the weirdest thing you ever ate?
  3. What kinds of recipes do you look for when shopping for cookbooks or looking for something to fix for dinner?
  4. How often do you cook?

P.S. Click on Comment in order to leave the answers to the questions
